Wisconsin’s large, modern dairy farms are certified to operate under strict local, state and federal regulations similar to those of other businesses. The certification process and ongoing regulatory review and monitoring requirements for large farms ensure compliance with rules that protect our land, water and air.
At Larson Acres, we respect the environmental
safeguards that are in place in Wisconsin and have worked
closely with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources,
the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Wisconsin
Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection,
Rock County and the town of Magnolia to ensure that our
operation complies with or exceeds all local, state and
federal environmental regulations.
Our family business currently operates under the strict guidelines of the following environmental permits and approvals:

What is a WPDES Permit?
Key to the certification or approval process are the provisions of the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, or WPDES, permit.
The WPDES permit requires an application that details the manure management plan and engineering design plans for all manure and feed storage facilities, as well as a completed environmental analysis questionnaire. The application and certification process typically takes six months or more.
Once a WPDES permit is issued, certified operators like Larson Acres must comply with the terms by following approved construction specifications and manure spreading plans, conducting a monitoring and inspection program and providing annual reports. |
